First responders in Shelton were dispatched at approximately 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4 to the intersection of River Road and Nettleton Court for a head-on crash with reported injuries.

Shelton Police said the investigation determined that Milford resident Ryan Searles was driving southbound on River Road, failed to maintain his lane, and struck a vehicle traveling northbound head-on.

The two occupants of the vehicle Searles struck were extricated and transported to an area hospital with “serious, but non-life-threatening injuries,” police said.

According to police, Searles was driving while under the influence and had cocaine in his possession at the time of the crash.

He was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, possession of narcotics and cited for failing to drive in the proper lane, said police.

Serales was released on a $2,000 bond and scheduled to appear in Derby Superior Court on Wednesday, March 18 to respond to the charges.
